Buying a kid a bed isn’t as simple as it once was. Before, you simply purchased a bed, usually a twin bed. Most of them all looked the same with the exception of what they were made out of and possibly the colour. White bed, stained beds, beds that had that natural look…all were still mainly frames with a headboard and footboard. Today’s beds, though, come in a variety of styles for kids, and some aren’t even made out of wood any more.
One of the more popular children’s beds is the one made to look like a race car. These beds are usually made from plastic, and the frame is made to look like a real car. The headboard is the back of the car, while the footboard, which is very low, looks like the windshield (with no actual glass, of course) and usually features a fender on front and headlights. The mattress fits snugly into the car shaped frame. Kids, especially boys, love these beds, but they aren’t exactly made from top quality material. They are, however, generally more expensive than some better made beds.
Other kid’s beds feature a frame designed for extra storage. Instead of being low to the ground, these bed frames actually feature drawers or shelves built in. The drawers are large enough to act as toy bins or even to hold clothing, but they aren’t high enough that younger children can’t climb into bed on their own. Many parents like the extra storage these beds provide, especially if their kids have small rooms or a lot of toys. These are all available as white bedroom furniture which fits will with most bedrooms from kids to adults covering beds, chest of drawers, wardrobes and bedside cabinets.
Bunk beds have also evolved beyond the concept of two beds stacked on top of each other. If you have kids who will be sharing a room, you may want to look into these new bunk beds. Some actually have turned the top bed 90 degrees so the two form an L shape. Under the top bed is a desk or a shelving unit that provides extra storage. Others have drawers under the bottom bunk similar to the beds described above.
While all of these beds may be great options for your child, there’s one major thing you must do before buying one: ask your child (or children) if they like that type of bed. You don’t want to buy a bed your child won’t want to sleep in, so be sure to get their opinion before purchasing anything.
